How did this come to our attention?
The Up-cycled Container School project is a prime example of the adaptability, durability, and the use of low cost of shipping containers. This school concept is designed by Tama Kenya, a local company for use in poor rural towns in Eastern Uganda and Western Kenya. The easy availability of shipping containers from the largest Sea Port in the region Mombasa and Tana allows for easy implementation of this concept. The design creates a safe space for kids to study and maximizing of the limited budget and available resources. This up-cycled school project is designed not only to provide classroom space but also space for a garden that will supplement school meals, a children’s play area with a swing and other equipment, solar panel roofing to provide electricity and a gathering area for lunches and school assemblies.
