Addis Foto Fest 2021 – AFF2021 6th Edition
The Addis Foto Fest (AFF) was established in 2010 by award-winning photographer and cultural entrepreneur, Aida Muluneh. The festival is organized by Desta for Africa Creative Consulting PLC. AFF is a biennial international photography festival held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It has previously featured exhibitions, portfolio reviews, conferences, projections and film screenings in many different renowned venues. It is also the first and only international photography festival in East Africa.
The AFF has been recognized as one of the leading photography festivals in Africa and in the world; the next edition of AFF 2016 takes place in Addis Ababa from December 15- 20, 2016. A special feature of the fourth edition is the incorporation of the first Addis Foto Fest 2021 Photography Awards and the launch of the annual event “Photography in Ethiopia” (PIE).
The AFF 2016 collection features images from emerging and established photographers from Africa, Asia, the Americas, Middle East, and Europe. The collection represents 134 photographers from 40 countries from around the world with images from various styles such as photojournalism, fine art photography, and archival photography.
“The driving force to organize the AFF has always been my core belief that not only in Ethiopia, but across the continent, the creative sector is an important component in our development. Hence, AFF represents a unique platform to share with the audience the vital role that photography plays in influencing how the world perceives us, and crucially, how we see ourselves. It was fundamentally important for me as a photographer, to engage in a dialogue on the distorted image of Africa from the outside world, and to use this platform as an opportunity to share with the world the cultural complexities, demographic and geographical diversity of the African continent and its people”. – Aida Muluneh (Founder AFF)
